Army looks at long-term solutions for homes near Yakima Training Center with contaminated water By SANTIAGO OCHOA Yakima Herald-Republic (WA) October 2, 2022 The U.S. Army is looking at long-term solutions for residents affected by contaminated water near the Yakima Training Center, including water filter systems, digging deeper wells and possibly connecting to other wells or a municipal water system, officials said. The Army began testing residential water wells in October 2021 near the training center for PFOA and PFOS. Both chemicals are abundant in a fire suppressant used until 2014 at the training center and are toxic to humans in small doses and over long periods of exposure. In early September, the Army finished its third phase of testing.
