DOE Issues Initial PFAS Assessment
The Department of Energy (DOE or the Department) would like to share with you an update on its efforts to assess and address the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) substances at DOE sites.
The Department is issuing the “Initial Assessment of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances at Department of Energy Sites” which summarizes the results of a preliminary evaluation of known historic or current PFAS uses, PFAS occurrence in the environment, and regulatory and stakeholder interactions at DOE program sites. Information from the report will be used to inform next steps in addressing PFAS at DOE sites and to support continued coordination with other federal agencies. The report can be found here.
The Initial Assessment report is a companion to the PFAS Strategic Roadmap: DOE’s Commitments to Action 2022-2025 which was previously announced and released on August 18, 2022. The Roadmap outlines goals, objectives, and specific actions the department is taking to address PFAS. The Roadmap can be found here.
The Department is committed to protect human health and the environment in assessing and addressing the presence of PFAS substances at DOE sites while deploying the Department’s scientific expertise to solve PFAS challenges. DOE is committed to collaboration and keeping stakeholders and the public informed about its activities related to PFAS.
