Titan Missile Site Remediation Committee discusses contamination issues with Lincoln residents

Nearly 600 concerned citizens attended a March 8 presentation to talk about the next steps to clean up toxic chemicals at the Lincoln Titan 1 Missile Silo Complex in Sun City Lincoln Hills.

Some of those chemicals include benzene, lead and xylenes, and trichloroethylene or TCE.

A TCE plume has spread from the missile site to properties on the other side of Oak Tree Lane and is moving closer to Sun City Lincoln Hills homes, according to a Jan. 19 Lincoln News Messenger article, “Lincoln's defunct missile site contamination has spread.” 

The contamination was discovered in 1991. A plan by the Army Corps of Engineers and the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board in 2009 was never acted upon because the agencies could not agree on which agency was responsible for cleanup, according to the article.
