PFAS poisoning: Don’t eat deer from near Clark’s Marsh By Sheri McWhirter Mlive (MI) November 6, 2023 OSCODA TWP., MI – State hunting regulators and health officials are reminding hunters not to eat venison from deer killed within three miles of Clark’s Marsh in Oscoda Township because of ongoing PFAS pollution. A state-issued advisory not to eat deer from that area of Iosco County remains in effect because of likely contamination with various harmful per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS) in the animals’ livers and muscle tissues. … The Air Force contaminated Oscoda area surface waters like the marsh by using PFAS-based firefighting foam for years at Wurtsmith before the base closed in 1993. The contamination was discovered by the state in 2010. … For the entire article, see https://www.mlive.com/public-interest/2023/11/pfas-poisoning-dont-eat-deer-from-near-clarks-marsh.html — Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight A project of the Pacific Studies Center LSiegel@cpeo.org P.O.
