Please join us for a revealing presentation on PFAS contamination in the U.S., Okinawa, and Japan.
Marguerite Adelman and Pat Elder with Military Poisons will join Rachel Clark with the Veterans for Peace Speaking Tour of Japan. The three will examine the state of PFAS contamination in the U.S., Okinawa, and on the mainland of Japan. They’ll describe public perceptions and governmental responses to the military's careless use and dumping of deadly PFAS carcinogens.
The event is sponsored by the U.S. branch of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom, WILPF. Nancy Price will moderate.
Marguerite Adelman, Coordinator of the Vermont PFAS/Military Poisons Coalition--a project of WILPF Burlington and the Earth Democracy Committee, will share information about effective strategies to:
· Educate government officials, the media, and the public about PFAS; · Grow our PFAS coalition to include peace, environmental, religious, and other groups in advocacy; and · Advocate for more legislation around PFAS in our air, water, soil, food, and consumer products.
Marguerite will share numerous materials that activists can use in their efforts around PFAS: Downloadable PFAS posters, PFAS information sheets, Surveys, Powerpoints, and more.
Rachel and Pat will team up for a half-hour presentation on the U.S. military's reckless use and dumping of PFAS carcinogens at bases in Japan. They'll describe the ways the US and Japan Self Defense Forces use these chemicals and the dangerous levels of PFAS in the environment in Japan, especially in the fish. Rachel will report on the significance of the alarming levels of PFAS found in the blood of residents in Tokyo who live near the U.S. Yokota Airbase. She will relay the perceptions of the Japanese and Okinawan public regarding the contamination flowing from American and Japanese facilities. Please consider registering in advance for this meeting: Thank you, Nancy Price, WILPF-US Rachel Clark, Veterans for Peace Speaking Tour of Japan.
