S.F.’s Presidio singled out for massive cut under Republican budget plans

Two years ago, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi hailed the arrival of $200 million from the federal government to rehabilitate San Francisco’s Presidio as a critical infusion that would “ensure the Presidio’s spectacular front window to the Bay is maintained.”

Now House Republicans want it back.

Rescinding the $200 million is included on a 50-page list circulated among top Republican lawmakers in Washington laying out ideas to pay for key elements of President Donald Trump’s agenda, including a tax cut and a massive immigration crackdown. The list includes raising taxes for people who receive scholarships, own homes or pay student loans, and enacting strict requirements for people who receive many forms of government assistance, including food benefits and Social Security.
