Dear RECA & All:

Just received this with a message from the California based investigative reporter who has covered our saga here on the rad/Plutonium in OH, Greg Schwartz for years now,  that we here at Uniontown IEL Superfund  -  with top secret nuclear weapons waste buried within a landfill continually free to leach out into our area's groundwater source, may as well just pack it in, according to this latest piece from ProPublica..

No question, there are many who may agree....

Here's my problem: Those of us who have been " on the front lines, who have been in the trenches", now for many decades, through several Administrations,  both R's & D's... regardless, day in and day out, fighting for justice and a safe cleanup to protect our respective communities from further poisonings, simply do not have the luxury of giving up......We know too much, we have witnessed far too much sickness , death.  We have learned a great deal from caring, decent scientists found within our government  - true whistleblowers, just like ones quoted in this story, but in our experience, not merely from US EPA, but from within DOE, Ohio EPA, CDC's ATSDR, along with several independent academics...

What ProPublica describes regarding the Trump/Musk agenda for Big Oil, mining, "AI, revamping nuclear power, etc. etc."..... all of it,  apparently needing to feed their voracious requirements to fulfill their coffers/ their energy needs/ their self-serving agendas, ....

I happen to still believe in my fellow Americans, no matter which "color shirt" they wear....because I still believe that they want to see their children and grandchildren grow up healthy  - and  free... They do not want their precious kiddos to wind up like the poster children we see daily on all the St. Jude's infomercials - battling deadly Leukemia, brain tumors....

No, I for one just don't have the luxury of accepting what ProPublica et al is saying.

How about you all?  The Manhattan Project turned the United States, even according to DOE"S very own booklet, into a widespread factory of sorts in order to build the bomb....   Our Americans out West , Eastward to Ohio,  all have suffered greatly for many decades' since then, with very little accountability or justice.
What is outlined below in this article, seems to be another version of "The Manhattan Project 2.0..."  Is history repeating itself, have we not learned anything?

What always keeps coming back to mind and still relevant I think to this very day are the separate warnings, years' apart, from former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Ohio's Senator John Glenn both saying in eerily similar ways,...( paraphrased)...What is the point in the US government protecting us from enemies from without, IF we, in the process, poison ourselves from within?

“We Feel Terrorized”: What EPA Employees Say About the Decision to Stay or Go Under Trump

More than 300 career employees at the Environmental Protection Agency have left. Those who remain face a painful decision: resign or work for an administration that plans to radically reshape the EPA while reversing environmental protections.

From reporter Jennifer Smith Richards:

Since 2022, we’ve been investigating how schools partnered with police in Illinois to discipline students by issuing them costly tickets for misconduct, sidestepping a state law banning schools from fining students directly. Our reporting in “The Price Kids Pay” revealed how thousands of students have been funneled into quasi-judicial systems where they have little power to fight tickets they got at school for infractions like vaping, fighting or truancy.

We also discovered that Black students were twice as likely to be ticketed at school than their white peers. Families often end up with hundreds of dollars in fines and fees and some are sent to collections when the debts go unpaid.

With a second Trump administration signaling it will dismantle the U.S. Department of Education and deemphasize civil rights enforcement in schools, Illinois lawmakers say it’s now urgent that they protect students by ending school-based ticketing. Legislators introduced a new bill this week that is a stronger, more precise version of previous measures that attempted to end the practice. Earlier bills never got a full vote; the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police was among those objecting to the bills. A vice president for the group said he has not yet seen the new bills but said the group will work with lawmakers and advocates.

“We can’t let Trump policies dictate our morals,” said Illinois Rep. La Shawn Ford, the new bill’s chief sponsor. “Our schools should be a place where we protect students from the school-to-prison pipeline, period.”
