TREASURER ANNOUNCES UPCOMING TOOLS TO REVITALIZE CALIFORNIA
COMMUNITIES SECOND ANNUAL CONFERENCE
UNIQUE, ONE-DAY CONFERENCE ON SMART INVESTMENTS WILL PROVIDE VITAL,
PRACTICAL FINANCIAL INFORMATION THROUGH PANELS AND ROUNDTABLES
SACRAMENTO, CA - The California Debt and Investment Advisory
Commission (CDIAC), chaired by California State Treasurer Phil
Angelides, will host an upcoming conference titled Tools to Revitalize
California Communities on October 17, 2003 in Los Angeles, California.
This is the second annual daylong workshop sponsored by CDIAC-this
year in conjunction with the City of Los Angeles Human Relations
Commission and the Local Government Commission-focusing on how
California communities can access private capital and state funding
for economic development through a wide variety of financing
mechanisms. The conference will kick off with a reception and welcome
remarks on Thursday night, October 16, 2003.
Featured speakers at this year's conference - which is being held at
the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles - are State Treasurer Phil
Angelides, who will deliver a keynote address at the luncheon, and
U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, who will deliver the keynote address at the
welcome and introduction. Other speakers will be U.S. Rep. Juanita
Millender-McDonald, State Sens. Gil Cedillo and Gloria Romero,
Assemblymembers Mark Ridley-Thomas, Mervyn Dymally and Judy Chu (who
is also a member of CDIAC), City Council Member Antonio Villaraigosa
and Lisa M. Harris, Executive Director of CDIAC. Also in attendance
will be other federal, state and local government officials, economic
development professionals, government finance professionals, planning
experts and private investment professionals.
This year, more than 70 professionals from the fields of economic
development and financing will be present at six afternoon roundtable
sessions. Roundtable experts will provide insight on how to attract
capital investment, case study perspectives from women- and
minority-owned businesses, keys to urban real estate investments,
faith-based non-profit economic development activities, formulas for
business and job creation and dialogue on affordable housing.
The Tools to Revitalize California Communities seminar is part of the
Treasurer's "Double Bottom Line" investment initiative, which focuses
on achieving successful investment results while simultaneously
broadening economic opportunity in California communities.
