| Subject: | [CPEO-BIF] EPA report on cleanup needs released |
In a new report, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
estimates that as many as 350,000 contaminated sites may require cleanup
during the next 30 years, with cost reaching some $250 billion.
The Agency´s estimates are contained in the report, "Cleaning Up the
Nation´s Waste Sites: Markets and Technology Trends." The report covers
seven major cleanup programs: Superfund, RCRA Corrective Action, DoD, DOE,
USTs, Civilian Federal Agencies, and State Voluntary cleanup programs. For
each program, the report examines the following:
* Market description: nature of the program and regulatory requirements
and practices
* Market size: number of sites and cost of cleanup work needed
* Site characteristics: contaminants, media, and other factors that
affect technology demand
* Economic, political, and technical factors that affect demand for
cleanup services
* Relevant technology trends and issues by market segment
The report can be downloaded at http://www.clu-in.org/market
