Now that the large American Drew factory building has been
demolished, the Town of North Wilkesboro is expected to go out for
bids in January for the construction of two streets on the Block 46
tract adjacent to the Central Business District Loop in North
Wilkesboro.
The west end of Main Street will be extended one block into the
property. A second street will be constructed from West D Street
(between the former American Drew office building and the Tar Heel
Oil storage tanks) to Wilkesboro Boulevard (at the work entrance to
the property, near Brushy Mountain Smokehouse).
The 28-acre tract is owned by Shepherd Real Estate LLC of North
Wilkesboro and The Crown Companies LLC of Dobson, which purchased the
property from La-Z-Boy.
