The DPW is testing for possible air contamination in Housing Authority units

Chemical contamination known as TCE has been found in the groundwater near the Greenwood Gardens apartments, and officials have reason to believe it may have migrated into the apartments’ interior air.
The chemical compound was first detected in the groundwater in early December, and officials believe it emanated from the Greenwood Street landfill. Testing will begin next week.
In the meantime, officials are stressing there’s little cause for concern. There are no pregnant women in the housing complex, which mostly serves the elderly and disabled.
