NJ sues Pfizer and others for water contamination By Julia Rock-Torcivia Drug Discovery & Development October 1, 2025 New Jersey’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has filed a lawsuit against Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Honeywell and several real estate companies, claiming there is toxic waste on an old pharmaceutical plant site, contaminating the groundwater. The plant, located in Morris Plains, was operational from the 1950s to the 1980s under Warner-Lambert, which Pfizer acquired in 2000. The state claimed the other defendants were “knowing purchasers” of parts of the site. Under New Jersey’s Spill Act, passed in 1976, these companies can be held liable for cleanup if they bought the land with knowledge of the contamination. The state is requesting financial compensation for past and future cleanup of the site. There was no specific number stated. The claim alleges that the plant discharged trichloroethylene (TCE), a carcinogen, as well as other hazardous chemicals, contaminating the groundwater. … For the entire article, see https://www.drugdiscoverytrends.com/nj-sues-pfizer-and-others-for-water-contamination/ — Lenny Siegel Executive Director Center for Public Environmental Oversight A project of the Pacific Studies Center LSiegel@cpeo.org P.O.
