Maine DEP addresses discovery of toxic chemicals in Limerick wells
Residents are concerned about long-term health effects despite water and air filtration systems addressing cancer-causing chemicals linked to the former town dump.

LIMERICK, Maine — State environmental regulators and town officials have now put water and air filtration systems in several Limerick homes, taking action after they discovered that two cancer-causing chemicals had leaked into private wells near an old town dump.

While the systems are removing the chemicals, residents remain concerned about possible long-term health effects.

Limerick resident Jessica Winn demonstrates how this radon system in her basement prevents toxic chemical vapors from entering her home. Winn also uses a carbon filter to clean her drinking water. The systems were added after high levels of TCE were found in her well late last year.
