Our son was stationed at Schweinfurt Ledward barracks from 1988 to 1991
before being sent to the Gulf. He was a primary gunner on the Bradley
Fighting Vehicle with the famed Audie Murphy battalion in the 3rd
("Rock of the Marne") infantry division. Spent many a cold wintry day
practicing his gunnery proficiency at Grafenwoehr.
He indicated he had heard on good authority that the government of the
Third Reich had most likely availed themselves of Grafenwoehr and
Schweinfurt for the training of Wehrmacht and possibly SS panzer units
before and during WWII or zweiweltkreig.
If this be the case then wouldn't it be equitable to ask the Bundeswehr
and/or Federal Republic of Germany to pick up at least half the
tab for EOD or explosive ordnance disposal and other site remediation
costs? N'est ce-pas?
If anyone has a better solution pls jump in.
