Middletown Residents Say Training Facility Would Compromise Quality Of Life

MIDDLETOWN - Along rustic Freeman Road, near the Haddam line, residents
opposed to a planned 200,000-square-foot Army training center on 40
acres of meadow and forestland are preparing to take a stand.
On the north side of the road this past week, posters were pinned up in
front of the homes, attesting to a quality of life that the residents
feel will be lost if the project proceeds on this land, owned by
Connecticut Light & Power Co.
On the south side, directly across the country road, a survey team hired
by the Army, with a dump truck and a bucket loader, began poking into a
picturesque hayfield. Freeman Road resident Paul Schukoske's folks sold
a large portion of the field to the power company years ago. The Army is
testing the 40-acre site as it talks to CL&P about a sale.
