Looking back 30 years on the Plattsburgh Air Force Base closure and current developments to the area By Sophia Falbo NBC 5 September 29, 2025 PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — Monday marks 30 years since the Plattsburgh Air Force Base closed, after operating for more than four decades in the North Country. “It was a terrible loss in the in the social history of this community, because we were so deeply intertwined with our military," said Garry Douglas, President of the North Country Chamber of Commerce. "It was so special and so important to us was, it was like a heart was ripped out of the community.
