Senate defense bill recognizes nuclear contamination in Nevada military testing area

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The U.S. Senate on Thursday approved a national defense bill that includes key provisions related to nuclear contamination in the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR).

U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nevada, announced Thursday that the National Defense Authorization Act included several provisions related to the Silver State, including classifying the NTTR as contaminated from nuclear testing and toxic activities.

The Defense Department will be required to document servicemembers exposed to radiation and toxins occurring stateside. The Air Force will also have to identify everyone who served at classified locations in the NTTR since 1951 and create a process for them to submit PACT Act claims.
