Along the Central Coast of California, just miles from the historic Hearst Castle, sits a long-decommissioned Cold War-era Air Force station. With panoramic views above the rocky ocean shoreline in Cambria, the 32-building complex built on a hilltop has sat mostly vacant for more than 40 years. Several owners, including some Hollywood-adjacent dreamers, have had grand plans for the site, but something has always gotten in the way. Now, years after alleged illegal asbestos cleanups, an FBI raid, and many, many lawsuits, the property is once again for sale.

Just south of the small beachfront town of Cambria, the more than 34 acres of former military land is undergoing a bankruptcy sale, priced at $3.2 million. There’s one primary residence at 202 Monte Cristo Place, with five bedrooms and two bathrooms. The listing claims the kitchen has “granite countertops and double ovens, offering modern comfort amidst historic charm,” though no photos back up the “modern” claim. Dick Keenan, the listing agent for the property, said he’s not authorized to speak with the media about the property.
