Guam EPA to senators: Andersen Air Force Base possible source of dieldrin contamination

Andersen Air Force Base is eyed as a potential source of cancer-linked dieldrin that’s been found in water around Guam and in the highest levels in Yigo, according to updates shared by the Guam Environmental Protection Agency with senators on Wednesday.

Yigo water well Y-15, where levels of pesticide dieldrin have been detected at nearly eight times the level deemed “unacceptable” by regulators, is right outside the back gate to Andersen.

The Guam Waterworks Authority finished its interim treatment system for the Yigo well in October, and construction of a permanent system is in the works, due by summer.
