Navy Delays Start Of Glenview Burn Pit Remediation To Address Resident Concerns

Phase one of a U.S. Navy remediation project at a former landfill and burn pit in Glenview, scheduled to begin this month, has yet to start as officials work to address community concerns regarding the excavation of contaminated soil.

The project, located at “Site 26” off Buccaneer Drive, was once part of the Naval Air Station Glenview. The site served as a disposal area for refuse, construction debris, and potentially hazardous solvents during the 1950s and 1960s.

“We didn’t want to start until questions and concerns were answered,” said Matt Mogle, a spokesperson for Naval Station Great Lakes.
