Brownfields Redevelopment Workshop The Council for Urban Economic Development (CUED) is hosting a workshop on brownfields redevelopment in Denver, Colorado, on August 6 and 7. Because it is sponsored by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), this interactive seminar is available to CUED members for only $105 and to non-members for only $115 (early registration rate). There are federal programs dedicated to supporting the redevelopment of brownfields. Is you community eligible? Have you taken the preliminary steps necessary to identify distressed areas? This seminar will lead you through the steps for cleaning up sites and leveraging private sector investment. The benefits of redeveloping brownfields are both environmental and economic. You will have the opportunity to learn: * Techniques for assessing contamination and cleaning it up, * Ways to overcome liabilities associated with brownfields, * Applicable federal and state laws, * Where to get federal, state, and local funds, * Mechanisms for community involvement, and * How to attract private investment. CUED has put together an all-star panel of professionals who will give you the information you need in order to make your region's brownfields reuse projects successful. Facilitators include: Charles Bartsch, who has authored numerous articles and reports on brownfields reuse, is a senior policy analyst for the Northeast-Midwest Institute. R.
