Detroit Mayor Dennis W. Archer To Host Environmental Justice Forum DETROIT, July 16 Detroit Mayor Dennis W. Archer and representatives from the United States Conference of Mayors will host United States Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Carol M. Browner at a day-long environmental justice forum on Friday, July 17. Scheduled for 10:45 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Cobo Conference and Exhibition Center, the forum will provide an opportunity for our nation's mayors and the EPA to have an open dialogue which will explore their specific thoughts and recommendations on how the EPA can carry out its responsibility for evaluating Title VI administrative complaints without jeopardizing urban economic redevelopment. The day will begin with a bus tour of several Detroit brownfield sites, and then move to Cobo for opening remarks by Mayor Archer, Administrator Browner, Mayor Pat McCrory, chair of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Energy and Environment Committee, and Donele Wilkins, executive director of Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice. Participants will then hear a series of presentations from attending mayors, their representatives and/or representatives from their business community. A working lunch will feature remarks by Elliott Laws, chairperson of Title VI Implementation Advisory Committee, and comments from representatives of the public and private sectors. A roundtable discussion will follow the presentations. SOURCE: City of Detroit | |
