Message in Text: EJAG INTERIM DIRECTOR JOB ANNOUNCEMENT (Please Post & Distribute) Organizational Background: The Environmental Justice Action Group (EJAG) is a young, grassroots, membership-based organization committed to education and activism around the issues of health, safety, and environmental justice in North and Northeast Portland. We are dedicated to developing and supporting community-based leadership in people of color and low-income communities. EJAG's Board, members, and staff reflect the diverse communities of people who live and work in North and Northeast Portland. We believe that a community that educates itself and speaks out for itself can best protect itself. Position: Full-time, one year staff position responsible for implementing EJAG's mission through overall program management, development of grassroots leadership, education and outreach, and oversight of organizational operations, staff, and volunteers. Potential for permanent position. Major Areas of Responsibility: 1. Membership Development: · Identify and develop grassroots leadership; · Build relationships with other organizations and leaders; · Coordinate with Board and other staff to build EJAG membership. 2. Fundraising · Assist Board in long-range fundraising planning; · Coordinate grantwriting and develop relationships with funders; · Work with Board on major donor, events, and other fundraising projects. 3. Community Outreach & Communication · Coordinate newsletter distribution, creation of Web site, speakers bureau, door-knocking campaign, and other communication/outreach activities; · Represent EJAG at community meetings and events; · Provide educational presentations, materials, and resources to community; · Speak with media as representative of EJAG. 4. Administration & Financial Management · Staff Board and Board committees; · General overall administration of offices; · Supervise staff and volunteers; · Assist Treasurer with financial management and reporting to Board; · Coordinate with Treasurer to fulfill financial reporting requirements. Qualifications: (Required) · Long-term commitment to multi-issue environmental justice perspective; · Experience and ability to work with low-income and people of color communities, particularly in N/NE Portland; · Experience working in a grassroots, non-profit organization; · Strong communication skills, both oral and written; · Availability to work some evenings and weekends, as needed; · Ability to supervise staff in a progressive, activist environment; · Capacity to manage multiple projects at a time; · Basic computer literacy; · Experience in fundraising and/or financial management. (Desired) · Experience working with a Board of Directors in a nonprofit organization; · Experience using GIS or strong computer experience; · Bilingual (Spanish or Asian Languages); · Community organizing training experience; · Grantwriting/fundraising experience.
