In follow up to the Technical Assistance postings last month, Eliesh O’Neil Lane from the Georgia Tech Research Institute sent me contact info for Technical Outreach Services for Communities and Technical Assistance for Brownfields. ****** TECHNICAL OUTREACH SERVICES for COMMUNITIES “Assisting and empowering communities with environmental issues” HOW CAN YOUR COMMUNITY GET ASSISTANCE? If you live in any of the 50 states, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands, you can contact the TOSC Coordinator for your region. If you are unsure what region to contact, any coordinator below can direct your call to the appropriate person. Our projects are conducted regionally by five multi-university centers, which focus on different aspects of hazardous substance management. In addition to conducting research, which includes practical problems of hazardous substance management as well as long-term, exploratory research, the HSRCs offer technical assistance through the TOSC and TAB programs to communities impacted by hazardous waste issues. DOES YOUR COMMUNITY QUALIFY? Communities with the following characteristics are most likely to qualify for technical assistance through the TOSC program: • Environmental contamination issues • Human health protection issues • High community interest in the issue • Good community organization • Multiple requests for TOSC assistance TOSC is a non-advocate technical assistance program supported by the Hazardous Substance Research Centers (HSRCs) and provided at no cost to communities. The HSRCs conduct basic and applied research, technology transfer, and training focused on various aspects of hazardous substance management. -- [EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: CPEO'S PHONE NUMBER HAS CHANGED TO 415-405-7751.
