“Green Brownfields: Remediation for Successful Redevelopment - Innovative Concepts,” will be held in Salt Lake City, March 19-23, 2000. The conference is sponsored by the United Engineering Foundation and co-sponsored by the U.S. EPA and UBA (Federal Environmental Agency of Germany). More detailed information can be found on the UEF website (http://www.engfnd.org/0aa.html) or you can call (1-800-541-7016) or fax (212-591-7441) the Foundation for a copy of the general announcement. If you are interested in receiving the registration packet (early February), please complete and return the application form. The conference is aimed at all-involved parties from current property owners through administrative/governmental officials, consultants, contractors, developers, lawyers, project managers and potential investors. The conference will focus on -- different aspects of remediation covering the range from environmental laws up to field examples of abandoned and recycled industrial and military sites (conversion) -- bilateral exchange of experiences in the US and Germany focusing on the re-use of derelict land -- application of innovative approaches that reduce cost and time The conference program will include main topics such as sustainable development principles, successful integration of remediation and redevelopment, liability management, proven technologies/innovative concepts, application/research, voluntary clean-up, determination of clean-up standards/quality, legal aspects, economic costs and financial schemes especially innovative approaches (insurance), project structures and management, resuse of mining/radioactive areas, risk management protocols from regulatory perspectives. Emphasis will be placed on case studies. The general concepts and related experience in the US and partly so in Europe show major differences in reuse of contaminated property from assessment and cleanup to development which use sophisticated techniques and innovative cleanup strategies which take into account the economic targets. The basic idea of integrating remediation with development is the handling of the contaminated area/volume and the preparation as a construction site in one step. An overview will be given of the development and standard of conditions from the early 80s to the present with the need to develop economic concepts to achieve environmental progress that improves quality of life and attracts- the interest for new investments. The conference co-chairs are Dr. Herbert Klapperich (Germany) and Dr. Linda Garczynski (US EPA). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To read CPEO's archived Brownfields messages visit http://www.cpeo.org/lists/brownfields If this email has been forwarded to you and you'd like to subscribe, please send a message to cpeo-brownfields-subscribe@igc.topica.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ _____________________________________________________________ Get your favorite topic delivered daily. http://www.topica.com/t/11 | |
