Growing Pains:
Quality of Life in the New Economy

The high infrastructure costs of new suburban communities and the threat 
to future economic growth have emerged as the two  most important issues 
driving governors to attack regional growth problems, according to a new 
report released by the NGA's Center for Best Practices.

The report illustrates how governors are choosing from a wealth of ideas 
and experiments underway in the United States as national attention 
increasingly focuses on growth-related issues. It presents examples of 
successful efforts by governors in more than 25 states and is a 
culmination of a year-long study by the Center.
