RIDGE ADMINISTRATION AWARDS FIRST PERFORMANCE-BASED LOAN TO SUPPORT REMOVAL
OF NON-HAZARDOUS WASTE FROM BROWNFIELDS


Adams County company to eliminate millions of old tires from brownfields,
create 35 new jobs

 HARRISBURG (June 13) -- On behalf of Gov. Tom Ridge, Department of
Community and Economic Development Secretary Sam McCullough today awarded
an Adams County company with the state's first performance-based loan
designed to clean up non-hazardous wastes at Pennsylvania brownfields.

Recycling Technologies International LLC (RTI) was awarded $3.2 million to
expand production at its Conewago Township plant at 60 Filbert St., just
outside Hanover. RTI will use materials from Pennsylvania tire-shredding
companies to produce clean granules that will be resold to manufacturers of
rubberized flooring, auto parts and other products. The company will create
35 new jobs and retain 25 jobs. The performance-based loan becomes a grant
if RTI processes more than 120 million pounds of shredded tire materials
within eight years.
