Arlene Wong & Lisa Owens-Viani. www.pacinst.org/brownfld.pdf Brownfield redevelopment offers one strategy for communities to become involved in developing or contributing to their own vision of community sustainability and health. While much attention has been paid to developing incentives and policies to promote brownfields redevelopment, most efforts have focused on reducing the legal and financial barriers to building public-private partnerships to redevelop properties. Community involvement is often touted as important, but there is little attention to how this might be achieved, and meaningful and effective community partnerships continue to be lacking in many plans. The Pacific Institute designed this one-year project to support this work and, in particular, to assist brownfields stakeholders in promoting community engagement in this process. The product is a community resource book, focusing on ways in which communities can participate in the brownfield redevelopment process. The guide: * presents principles of effective community participation; * identifies and describes points for community involvement in the redevelopment process; * assesses the current requirements and procedures for community participation in regulatory and other brownfields institutions; * provides examples of effective community-government-private partnerships in six case studies; * summarizes lessons learned and makes policy recommendations for promoting effective community participation. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To read CPEO's archived Brownfields messages visit http://www.cpeo.org/lists/brownfields If this email has been forwarded to you and you'd like to subscribe, please send a message to cpeo-brownfields-subscribe@igc.topica.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ___________________________________________________________ T O P I C A The Email You Want. http://www.topica.com/t/16 Newsletters, Tips and Discussions on Your Favorite Topics | |
