House approves bill to create Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund 
Legislation on brownfields, parkland goes to Senate

COLUMBUS--The Ohio House on Tuesday unanimously approved legislation spelling
out how a $400 million, voter-approved bond issue should be spent to help clean
up brownfields and preserve parkland and farms in Ohio. 

The legislation next goes to the Senate. 

The bill would create the Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund, a $200 million pool
overseen by the state Department of Development for grants to clean up and
redevelop abandoned industrial sites, or brownfields. Local governments,
including conservancy and park districts, and nonprofit groups could apply for
up to $3 million that could be applied to up to 75 percent of a project cost. 

The legislation also sets aside $5 million for an Assistance Fund, which will
be used for grants for brownfield cleanup and public health emergencies related
to water supply contamination.
