Company to Aid in Testing for Chemical in Mtn. View By Joshua L. Kwan San Jose Mercury News Friday, May 9, 2003 Officials representing the former GTE Government Systems announced at a Wednesday night community meeting in Mountain View that the company will pay for the services of an environmental consultant to advise homeowners who live on land it contaminated years ago with an industrial solvent. The GTE officials also promised to replace equipment that extracts the solvent, called trichloroethylene, or TCE, from groundwater in the area with new technology that would reduce the amount of toxins released into the local atmosphere. ``We appreciate these steps,'' Mountain View City Councilman Greg Perry said at the meeting, hosted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The meeting was attended by about 100 homeowners invited to discuss their concerns about upcoming tests of air quality inside their homes. ... for the entire story, see http://www.bayarea.com/mld/mercurynews/news/local/5821845.htm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To read CPEO's archived Brownfields messages visit http://www.cpeo.org/lists/brownfields If this email has been forwarded to you and you'd like to subscribe, please send a message to cpeo-brownfields-subscribe@igc.topica.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | |
