Subject: | [CPEO-BIF] Wildlife Habitat Council Conference: RESTORING GREENSPACE 2003 |
For more information on this event, please direct all questions to <greenspace@wildlifehc.org> _______________________________________________________________________ THE WILDLIFE HABITAT COUNCIL PRESENTS: RESTORING GREENSPACE: USING ECOLOGICAL ENHANCEMENTS AT REGION 5 CONTAMINATED SITES September 15-17, 2003 Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza 800 East 81st Avenue Merrillville, IN 46410 WELCOME: Join the Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) for the fourth conference on ecological enhancement for site remediation. Participants at this invigorating, action-oriented meeting will discover how to remove institutional barriers and begin implementing enhancement projects at sites. Remediation projects, which apply natural resource-based approaches are achieving substantial cost savings as well as improving the social, economic and environmental value of sites. Encouraging sustainable development through ecological approaches also creates valuable benefits for communities, such as green space and opportunities to learn about the environment. Visit www.wildlifehc.org/events/restoringgreenspace.cfm to view the agenda and register. This conference will build on the accomplishments of the first three meetings, with a focus on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5. The goals of the conference include the following: 1.. Present findings of leading technical experts on benefits and lessons learned based on specific case studies where ecological enhancements have been implemented as interim remediation measures and end uses. 2.. Provide a first hand look (via field trip) at projects in EPA Region 5 where ecological enhancements have been successfully incorporated as part of site restoration efforts. 3.. Provide landowners and regulators with the tools to implement ecological enhancements by identifying contaminated sites where natural technologies can be implemented. 4.. Establish a multi-stakeholder workgroup to develop a Region 5-specific action plan to increase the use of ecological enhancements. 5.. Establish Team members and work schedule for an ITRC Ecological Enhancement Team to develop a Technical and Regulatory Guidance for Ecological Enhancements within the Design, Construction and Monitoring of Remediation Systems. www.itrcweb.org The Wildlife Habitat Council is a nonprofit, non-lobbying organization dedicated to increasing the quality and amount of wildlife habitat on corporate, private and public lands. WHC devotes its resources to building partnerships with corporations and conservation groups to create solutions that balance the demands of economic growth with the requirements of a healthy, bio-diverse and sustainable environment. www.wildlifehc.org Please e-mail greenspace@wildlifehc.org if you have any questions. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To read CPEO's archived Brownfields messages visit http://www.cpeo.org/lists/brownfields If this email has been forwarded to you and you'd like to subscribe, please send a message to cpeo-brownfields-subscribe@igc.topica.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | |
