It has spawned a second investigation into high levels of a potential carcinogen in the air of the Collegeville area. The path from air pollution to groundwater contamination from Pottstown to Collegeville is a little twisted, but was outlined at a meeting Tuesday at which the Department of Environmental Protection explained the findings in its initial report. A handful of Collegeville residents, including Mayor Dennis Parker, were on hand at the meeting, held at the west campus of Montgomery County Community College in Pottstown. Following up on complaints about potential air pollution in the Pottstown area, the DEP in 2002 set up an air sampling station at Pottstown High School.
