FYI: The NIEHS is accepting grant applications for: Hazardous Waste Worker Training Program, Minority Worker Training Program, Brownfields Minority Worker Training Program, and the Hazmat Disaster Preparedness Training Program. Bob Hersh CPEO Letter of Intent Receipt Date: October 22, 2004 Application Receipt Date: November 22, 2004 PURPOSE OF THIS RFA The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) invites applications for cooperative agreements to support the development of model programs for the training and education of workers engaged in activities related to hazardous materials and waste generation, removal, containment, transportation and emergency response. This RFA lists 4 distinct program areas: Hazardous Waste Worker Training Program, Minority Worker Training Program, Brownfields Minority Worker Training Program, and the Hazmat Disaster Preparedness Training Program. A website has been created at http://www.niehs.nih.gov/wetp/rfaguidelines.html which provides important supplementary instructions needed for the preparation of an application in addition to background reports and other information about the four program areas. FUNDS AVAILABLE Projected funding of $32 million at the currently appropriated levels for FY 2005 will be awarded to support model programs for targeted training. During FY 2005, NIEHS plans to fund between 15 and 20 cooperative agreements in response to this RFA for a period of five years. An applicant must request a project period of five years. ELIGIBLE INSTITUTIONS You may submit (an) application(s) if your institution has any of the following characteristics: o Non-profit organizations providing worker health and safety education and training. This includes universities, faith-based or community-based organizations and historically black colleges and universities (HBCU's). For-profit, public or private institutions, such as hospitals, laboratories,units of State and local governments, agencies of the Federal government, foreign organizations and foreign institutions are not eligible to apply.
