Gates rezoning approved City concerns about contamination and traffic dogged the application. The company has committed to remove TCE from the site. By Kris Hudson Denver Post Staff Writer December 21, 2004 The Denver City Council on Monday unanimously approved Gates Corp.'s bid to rezone the eastern portion of its former rubber-plant site for redevelopment after hearing of methods to manage traffic and contamination there. Gates applied to change the zoning on the 30-acre site from industrial uses to residential and mixed-uses related to adjacent mass transit. Yet concerns about traffic congestion and high levels of an industrial solvent at the site dogged the application. After hours of testimony from the public and haggling among members, the council last week voted to postpone the vote for a week to gather more information about traffic issues. ...
