EPA works to determine source of contamination By: JOE FERRY Bucks County Courier Times (PA) February 13, 2005 Perkasie - With results from the latest round of groundwater, soil and indoor sampling due back as early as this week, the Environmental Protection Agency may be reaching a crossroads in its investigation of underground contamination in a residential section of Perkasie. Nearly 18 months after the EPA began investigating whether trichloroethylene, a cancer-causing solvent used to remove grease, poses a threat to the residents' health, investigators have been unable to pinpoint a source of the contamination. Nor have they discovered any instances where toxic levels of TCE-laden vapors have made their way into homes. And there is no evidence that the few private wells in the area have been affected. As a result, after the most recent data is analyzed, EPA will have to make a decision how to proceed with the investigation, including a proposed solution, if one is warranted.
