EPA to test more Shenandoah homes Polluted sites to get different treatments By Dan Shapley Poughkeepsie Journal (NY) February 20, 2005 SHENANDOAH -- The Environmental Protection Agency will return to the Shenandoah area of East Fishkill before winter ends to test the air in more homes where toxic vapors are a concern. But the EPA may not set a goal of removing all detectable vapors in homes there, as it has in a nearby East Fishkill neighborhood, the Hopewell Precision site. Groundwater in both neighborhoods is polluted with chemical solvents. Shenandoah is polluted with tetrachloroethylene, or PCE, and, to a lesser extent, trichloroethylene, or TCE. PCE in groundwater breaks down into TCE. Hopewell Precision has TCE and trichloroethane, or TCA, in the water. ...
