LIU exploring its optionsBy Tom Venesky Citizen's Voice (PA) March 13, 2005 Luzerne Intermediate Unit 18 administrators are looking at two options for permanent office space for employees displaced after the administration building in Kingston closed last year. The LIU's Kingston administrative offices were closed June 21, after two independent air quality tests revealed levels of the cancer-causing chemical trichloroethene (TCE). Around 70 employees have been working from offices in the former Mackin Elementary School in the East End section of Wilkes-Barre. The building lacks space for meetings and training sessions as well as a phone system, according to LIU Assistant Executive Director Hal Bloss. "Our staff has been very diligent and receptive to working in this condition, but it is difficult," he said. The LIU is looking at either remodeling the Kingston building or purchasing a new building in the community. Cost and safety are the main factors, according to board president Barry Williams. ...
