Report clears proposed development site of TCE danger
DOUGLAS -- Contaminated groundwater flowing beneath a former Douglas golf course poses no health risk to surrounding residents, but it remains troublesome for plans to develop homes on the site. The Michigan Department of Community Health issued a report Friday on the potential hazard of trichloroethylene, an industrial degreaser that seeped into the ground decades ago on nearby property along Blue Star Highway. The report concluded that few residential properties exist above the groundwater plume, so it presents little risk of TCE vapors percolating through the soil and into basements. ...
