DEQ says underground chemicals in city don't need to be cleaned up By Jeff Kart Bay City Times (MI) March 28, 2005 An underground plume of chemicals near a Bay City riverfront condominium project likely will be left in place rather than cleaned up, the state Department of Environmental Quality says. A local environmental group says the problem shouldn't be ignored, since the plume may be leaching into the Saginaw River. The Lone Tree Council wants the Dow Chemical Co. to clean up the mess. Dow says no action is needed. Dow owns property at First and Water streets that once was home to Dow Specialty Products, which reportedly stored Agent Orange at the site up until the 1970s or '80s. ...
