On Track By Mary Bulkot Ithaca Times (NY) March 30, 2005 Although the ongoing investigation into chemical contamination at the Emerson Power Transmission site might seem as though it's moving slowly, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation says that this speed of progress is typical. "The time period is very typical for the industry," said Diane Carlton, a citizen participation specialist for the DEC. "We sometimes differ about the methods used, how they go about something," Carlton said. But overall, "we're pleased that the work is getting done." Carlton made the analogy of taking a road trip with another person and disagreeing on the route. "The most important thing is the final destination." The DEC is satisfied "as long as we can get the information we need." The DEC sent Emerson a letter in August outlining what changes it required the company to make to its indoor air assessment work plan. Derek Chase, director of environmental affairs for Emerson, responded in September. ...
