Dutchess health board OKs well-testing rule By Dan Shapley Poughkeepsie Journal (NY) June 17, 2005 Landlords and home sellers or buyers will need to show their wells meet safe drinking water standards about this time next year, under a rule approved Thursday by the Dutchess County Board of Health. Well tests cost between $125-$525 now. A new fee for well permits has yet to be set. The rule will alert home buyers to any contaminants in their wells and provide data about pockets of potentially harmful contamination that aren't identified now. A provision that would have required tests of wells at commercial properties was removed so the board could gather more public feedback. The drive to mandate well tests began five years ago with a group of East Fishkill residents whose wells were tainted with tetrachloroethylene, a colorless, odorless and potentially harmful chemical. ...
