Housing plans up for review Pomona project may add more than 2,000 units By Monica Rodriguez Inland Valley Daily Bulletin July 10, 2005 POMONA - A conceptual plan for a development that would put more than 2,000 housing units on the northwest corner of Mission Boulevard and the 71 Freeway will go before the City Council tonight. At 6 p.m. in the council chambers, council members will review the plan and listen to representatives of Richard Meruelo, developer and owner of part of the 60-acre site that was once a portion of the General Dynamics defense industry plant. The council is expected to direct city administrators on how to proceed with the proposal. But some council members, including Councilman Elliott Rothman, already have concerns about the project. The proposed development would be built in Rothman's district. Among his concerns is the future of the city-owned Veteran's Park on the northeast corner of the property where city leaders plan to build a soccer complex. ...
