Homeowners in Montgomery's TCE Contamination Area Receive Settlement Checks WSFA-TV 12 (Montgomery, AL) August 1, 2005 The checks are in the mail to more than a thousand north Montgomery homeowners. The money is part of a settlement reached with the department of transportation. The DOT has admitted to dumping a chemical decades ago at its Coliseum Boulevard headquarters. The chemical eventually seeped into the ground water in nearby residential subdivisions. Phyllis English remembers when she first learned that the ground in her neighborhood was contaminated. "A restaurant was planning on opening and they did some soil samples and found it," English said. ...
