Howell hopes to recover $3M in taxes Homes may be built on part of 216 acres BY BOB JORDAN Asbury Park Press (NJ) August 11, 2005 HOWELL - Redevelopment of a 216-acre parcel allowing for up to 350 homes to be built on a portion of the property is among the strategies being considered by the township in an attempt to recover more than $3 million in back taxes. The property near Lakewood-Farmingdale Road is the site of the bankrupt Frequency Engineering Laboratories. The company had manufactured electronic military hardware since 1964 and filed for bankruptcy in 2001. The company regularly discharged rinse waters from its metals-plating operations into a drainage ditch behind the facility, and sampling indicated that discharges had contaminated the soil and ground water with volatile organic compounds and metals, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection. ...
