Digging deeper at site By John Wright Standard-Examiner (UT) September 5, 2005 Ogden seeks designation to help pay for more tests OGDEN -- State environmental officials refuse to sign off on a high-adventure recreation center for the downtown mall site until the city has more soil and groundwater tests completed. Meanwhile, Ogden Mayor Matthew Godfrey said the city plans to seek a special designation that would make the 20-acre parcel eligible for federal funds to pay for additional environmental tests. With increases in construction costs looming, the city is moving forward with its own tests of the 11/2-acre site where the $18.5 million recreation center would be built because, at a meeting last week, state Department of Environmental Quality representatives reported they could not issue a "letter of no further action" on the site based on the two rounds of tests that found petroleum and tetrachloroethylene. ...
