Wyle denies causing school pollution

REFUSAL: The company says it won't clean up cancer-causing agents in a
science building.

The effort to clean up pollution in the Norco High School science
building faltered this month when officials at nearby Wyle Labs refused
to take responsibility for the contamination. 

Regulators with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control
sent a letter to Wyle, asking the company to mitigate the contamination
after trace amounts of cancer-causing substances were found in the air
inside the building. However, Wyle officials replied with a letter
rebutting the findings and insisting that the pollution is not linked to
a plume of contamination at and around Wyle Labs. 

"(Wyle's) argument is that the vinyl chloride isn't Wyle-related," said
Juan Osornio, project manager overseeing the Wyle clean-up for the
state. "Their argument is that there's some other indoor air source in
the science building, but we haven't been able to find that. None of
what we inventoried would contribute to a hit in these classrooms. You
just don't see (vinyl chloride) in indoor air."
