Work set to start on Sand Island project By KURT BRESSWEIN Easton Express-Times (PA) November 21, 2005 BETHLEHEM - The last remains of manufacturing on Sand Island are slated for demolition as part of park improvements finally under way, six years after planning began. Environmental hurdles that delayed the project have been cleared thanks to help from the state Department of Environmental Protection, city parks and public property Director Charlie Brown said. A department brownfield action team started working with the city last month. "We're clear now to do special construction under the brownfield team," Brown said. The team worked with the city on assessing asbestos and soil contamination issues on the site west of Main Street near the railroad trestle, according to DEP spokesman Mark Carmon. ...
