Brownfield authority may change bid policy By Myron Kukla The Grand Rapids Press December 04, 2005 HOLLAND -- The city's Brownfield Redevelopment Authority is torn over its policy to require competitive bids from companies getting tax breaks for rejuvenating old industrial sites. The authority Tuesday decided to look at revising the policy or creating a new policy. Problems have cropped up with the policy, which requires at least two competitive bids on any brownfield project work worth more than $20,000. None of the six companies doing brownfield projects has filed bids with the city, and some of the redevelopments are nearly complete. According to Assistant City Manager Greg Robinson, the lack of competitive bids could put the city in the position of having to deny approved tax rebates on the jobs. Brownfield projects under way include redevelopment of the former GE plant site, renovation of the former Kraft LifeSavers plant, the Baker Lofts condominium development and the new Macatawa Bank building in downtown Holland. ...
