The Environmental Protection Agency plans to test the air quality at
Earl L. Vandermeulen High School because a plume of toxic chemicals has
been found in the groundwater beneath the building.

There is no reported evidence of any air contamination, according to
both EPA spokesman Jim Haklar and Port Jefferson Superintendent of
Schools Robert Aloise, but because chemicals like those in the water can
migrate through soil to the surface, officials are concerned.
