EPA will test air at ELVHS Meeting tonight on toxins found beneath the school by Peter C. Mastrosimone Port [Jefferson] Times Record (NY) February 2, 2006 The Environmental Protection Agency plans to test the air quality at Earl L. Vandermeulen High School because a plume of toxic chemicals has been found in the groundwater beneath the building. There is no reported evidence of any air contamination, according to both EPA spokesman Jim Haklar and Port Jefferson Superintendent of Schools Robert Aloise, but because chemicals like those in the water can migrate through soil to the surface, officials are concerned. ...
