How badly was the Big Easy polluted? Anton Caputo San Antonio Express-News (TX) February 5, 2006 NEW ORLEANS - Thomas Rickerson stares at the image of his wife smiling brightly on her wedding day. It's one of the few photographs in his wedding album unfouled by the crude oil from a nearby holding tank that washed over his neighborhood after Hurricane Katrina. "Look at how beautiful that girl was when I married her. Still is," said Rickerson, 53, glancing up at his wife, Karen, who is carefully laying out other rescued photos on the driveway to dry. A few miles to the west, in the heart of the Ninth Ward's Press Park housing project, Emanuel Johnpire, 50, also has rescued his wedding album from the muck. Here, the floodwaters didn't mix with anything so visible as black oil. ...
